Families in Cobar can find playgroups, storytime, youth recreation and junior sport alongside early education, flexible care and specialist support. Whether you are planning a regular activity or looking for help with a particular family need, there are local and regional pathways worth exploring.

✨ Play, stories and youth activities

Cobar Mobile Children’s Services Inc

Inclusive, staff-led community playgroups give children aged 0–3, their siblings and parents or caregivers two hours to play and connect. The service reaches Cobar and rural or remote communities, with children who have additional needs or disability and families from diverse cultural or linguistic backgrounds welcome. A toy library is also available; membership and session fees apply.

Cobar Shire & TAFE Library Storytime

Young children and their grown-ups can enjoy interactive stories, rhymes and a preschool craft activity at free storytime sessions. These are listed for Mondays and the last Saturday of each month, but check the library’s events calendar before visiting.

Cobar Youth & Community Centre

Council’s youth-focused multipurpose venue includes a games room, stadium, squash courts, gymnasium, tennis courts, skate park and youth café. Ask the centre about current activities, access arrangements and supervision requirements.

Cobar Junior Rugby League Football Club

Young players can join age-based rugby league competitions for under 9s, under 13s and over 13s, covering ages 5–16. The club lists an April–September season, training at Tom Knight Memorial Oval and Sunday games. Confirm registration arrangements and fixtures before attending.

🌱 Early learning and school-age care

Ngalii Preschool

Children aged 3–5 can take part in preschool learning during NSW school terms. Separate groups are provided for children aged 3–4 and 4–5.

Cobar Early Learning Centre

Council operates play-based early learning for children from 6 months to 5 years, with dedicated infant, toddler and preschool spaces. The Child Care Subsidy-approved service also provides a transition-to-school program.

Far West Family Day Care

Trained, registered educators provide home-based education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years across Cobar and Far West NSW. Depending on availability, care may include holidays, before and after school, after hours or overnight. Children must be registered before starting; educator fees vary and Child Care Subsidy may apply.

Cobar Outside of School Hours Care (COOSH)

Primary school-aged children can access before-school, after-school and vacation care, with some pupil-free-day care subject to minimum numbers. The service is Child Care Subsidy approved and closes during Council’s Christmas closure period. Confirm the current venue and book ahead.
